The Lord Calls Our Patriarch Home to Him

This morning an email was received from our Primate, Bishop Donald J. Buttenbusch, announcing the passing of our Patriarch, Dom Luis Fernando Castillo-Mendez.  I will post a link below that will take you to another religious organization that has direct contact with the Catholic Apostolic Church of Brazil.

Dom Luis came to New York City to consecrate Bishop Justo Roque Gonzalez.  Bishop Justo later ordained me to the priesthood on May 19, 1990.  During his visit, I had the opportunity to visit with the Patriarch and speak with him in Spanish.  Unfortunately, my bilingual abilities have fallen out of use.

It is unfortunate that we have not had the opportunity to have Dom Luis visit us in Philadelphia and, in particular, St. Michael's.  He was a man of few words but, when he did speak, his wisdom was quite obvious.  He will be sorely missed.  Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at St. Michael's.  Please keep all of the various branches of the Igreja Catolica Apostolica Brasileira (ICAB) in your prayers.

We are currently not in communion with this sister church but they have excellent communications with Brazil and have already posted this information to their website.  A link is provided below which includes another link to an image of the letter received by the Catholic Apostolic National Church.  Yes, our names are very similar which is quite confusing, even to your clergy.

"But from the beginning of the creation, male and female made he them.  For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife;
and the two shall become one flesh: so they are no more two, but one flesh.  What therefore God hath joined, let not man put asunder." - Mark 10: 6-8
